When ten-year-old Sam and his younger sister Sara (played by real-life brother and sister Keyan and Parissa Abedini) arrived in Los Angeles with their mother, the only thing on their mind was to go to Disneyland. But things take a wrong turn when their mother is kidnapped by three armed Mafioso. Realizing that the police can’t find their uncle, their only relative in town, in time, these two helpless children take to the vast and unforgiving streets of Los Angeles to find him themselves. On their way they encounter a colorful cast of characters and frightening situations where their humanity and endurance are put to the test, but more importantly they discover something about themselves, that the best quality is to survive with humanity.

The film debuted at the Cairo International Film Festival and was also selected for the New Delhi International Film Festival.

Surviving Paradise, was the first English language Iranian feature film distributed theatrically in the United States in 2000.
