In between the Sweden and NFA screenings, Maghsoudlou participated in another screening in Rome, this one of Amir Naderi’s Manhattan by Numbers (1993) at the Museum Palazzo delle Esposizioni on November 12. That night was rainy as well, but the cinema was full, as the audience enjoyed the first film made by Naderi in the USA, a work that still looks as great and seems as relevant as ever after two decades.
The broader theme of the festival was narratives linked to the world of mathematics, demonstrated through a series of movies exploring this notion in different ways and starting from different suggestions. The festival began on October 15th and will end on November 23rd with a screening of Number 23, directed by Joel Schumacher. 28 feature films were screened, including A Beautiful Mind, Cartesius, Rain Man, Moebius, Memento, Last Year at Marienbad, Zodiac and Darren Aronofsky’s Pi.
The curator of this unique and interesting festival was Francesca Pappalardo. Bahman Maghsoudlou executive produced Manhattan by Numbers in 1993 and the film is copyrighted by International Film & Video Center.
