Razor’s Edge: The Legacy of Iranian Actresses premiered in Europe by landing in Paris on March 7, Women’s Day, at Cinema Luminor. The marvelous event was arranged by the Association of Social & Cultural Iranians of Paris. Their Women’s Day celebration included a screening of the film and, after a Q&A with the director, dinner was served on the second floor of the cinema.
Luminor is a prestigious cinema in the heart of Paris that functions like a cinematheque, selecting the best, most artistic films of the year and screening them for one or more days at different hours. They had taken notice of Razor’s Edge when it was shown at the 27th Festival International Du Film D’Histoire in Pessac the previous November. Thus, the film was invited to participate and, with the cooperation with two other associations, they created the Women’s Day event. It was a sold-out night, and the film was subsequently screened one more time on Sunday, March 12, 2017.
SOAS University in London,England was the second place that Razor’s Edge was screened, with more than two hundred film lovers in attendance for the screening and a Q&A with the writer/director afterwards. This was the second time Bahman Maghsoudlou had presented a film at SOAS, after Ahmad Mahmoud: A Nobel Novelist more than a decade earlier.
On the second leg of the European Tour, Kanoon Iranian and president Dr. Reza Ghassemi hosted the film in London on September 15, 2017, at the Central Library of London.
Next up, the film traveled to Finland, screening in Helsinki on September 20 and Tampere on September 21 to amazing audiences. Stockholm was next, on Friday 22, and the final screening in Europe was in Gutenberg, on Sunday, September 24, 2017.
Bahman Maghsoudlou was present at all of the screenings to participate in Q&A sessions with the audience. The screenings were all attended by genuine film lovers, who particularly appreciated the way this documentary recorded the lives and contributions of 21 leading actresses from Iranian cinema from 1900 to 1979.
